Anime Dice Traits and Mutations
Reroll keepers, protect mutations, and stop spending Trait Rerolls on Commons.
Two layers sit on top of rarity in Anime Dice: traits (rerollable passives) and mutations (rare variants of a unit). Codes feed the first layer with Trait Rerolls. Luck and dice nodes feed the second. Mixing them up is how you delete a once-per-week roll. This guide is the do-not-delete list. Rankings of which passives pay live on the traits tier list. Rarity context lives on rarities.
The official game page calls out mutations in the same breath as “collect rare Anime Characters.” That is not flavour. A mutated high-rarity unit with a cash trait and a finished Grade is the actual endgame piece, even if the Index still has holes.
Traits: overwrite with intent
A Trait Reroll replaces the current trait. There is no vault, no undo, no pity. UPDATE2, UPDATE1, and RELEASE together hand you a small stack — see code rewards — which means every click is a decision.
Reroll when:
- The unit is a keeper on rarity or mutation.
- The current trait does nothing for cash, luck, or Grade.
- You still have rerolls after protecting one “good enough” trait on your main.
Do not reroll when:
- The unit is a Common you will sell after the next Lucky Spin burst.
- The trait is already a cash or luck passive and you are chasing a named fantasy trait.
- You have not placed the unit yet. Reroll after it sits on a pad so you remember who it is.
If you need a ranked list rather than a sermon, open the traits tier list and stop at A-tier. S-tier chasing on a mid unit is how stacks die.
Mutations: do not “clean” them
Mutations are special versions. They can change the silhouette (the pale armored unit and the cyan-aura caster in the official thumbnails are the vibe) and they can add a multiplier the trait table does not show. You usually cannot craft a mutation with Gems. You roll into it.
Protect mutations:
- Do not sell a mutated unit to tidy the plot unless you already have a strictly better mutation.
- Do not Trait Reroll a mutated unit that already has a usable cash trait. You can brick the only copy you will see this week.
- Put mutated units on the strongest pads. They are the best units by default until a higher rarity mutation lands.
If a dice node mentions mutation chance, it is competing with raw luck nodes. After your first mutation, mutation chance often wins. Before your first mutation, raw luck still wins because you need a high-rarity base for the mutation to matter. Dice upgrades covers that fork.
Stacking order that players mix up
Income on a pad is roughly: rarity base × Grade × trait × mutation × pad. Missing any layer is fine. Missing two layers on your “main” is why the neighbour’s plot looks fake.
A practical stack for a new Update 2 account:
- Fill pads with anything (money guide).
- Lucky Spin toward rarity (lucky spins).
- Grade the rarest placed unit (grades).
- Trait Reroll that unit once or twice, then stop.
- Hold leftover rerolls for the first mutation.
Index versus mutations
Index wants unique faces. Mutations can count as extra Index rows depending on how the collection is coded this patch. Do not delete a mutation “because Index already has the base unit.” Check index and collection before you sell.
Patch caution
Update 2 can retune which traits exist. If a trait name you saw in a screenshot vanishes, it is not your file corrupting — it is a live game. Confirm changes on Update 2 and keep using cash-facing traits even if the label changed.
When you are unsure, do nothing. Unspent Trait Rerolls still exist after a session. A bricked mutation does not. For the spend order across all three code currencies, return to code rewards.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Should I reroll traits on every Anime Dice unit?
No. Only keepers. Commons get replaced. Use the traits tier list and stop when the trait is good enough.
Can I craft a mutation with Gems?
Gems buy Grade, not mutations. Mutations come from lucky rolls and luck nodes. See dice upgrades.
Why did my mutated unit feel weaker after a reroll?
You likely overwrote a cash trait. Trait Rerolls do not protect mutations. Pause and read the stacking order above.
Where do Trait Rerolls come from?
Mostly codes such as UPDATE2. Save them with the codes checklist so alts do not skip a string.
